Killa's Carnival

Barranquilla, a Caribbean city in northern Colombia, transforms each year into a vibrant stage where tradition, music, and joy take over every street. The Carnival of Barranquilla, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, has four official days of celebration, but its spirit begins long before: for weeks in advance, the city lives in a carnival atmosphere, with streets beating to the sound of drums and voices rehearsing without rest.

This documentary photography project seeks to capture not only the images but also the essence of this uninterrupted celebration. The photographs portray the intensity of color, the bustle of the streets, the energy of the dancers, and the complicity of an audience that moves to the rhythm of cumbias, mapalés, and porros. Each image is paired with sounds and fragments of emblematic carnival songs, all brought together in a specially created magazine that invites viewers to immerse themselves in the experience as if they were there.

More than a visual record, it is a living testimony to the spirit of Barranquilla — a place where the celebration is not watched from afar but felt on the skin.
